Romanus Eunt Domus ?
This is a project to create a open office custom dictionary covering commonly used ancient Roman and Greek words.
This dictionary, when it launches will be free and available to download from this site released under a GNU licence.
On top of the all encompassing dictionary, I am also writing an open office add-in which will allow you to pick and choose various categories in the dictionary. For example if you only wanted to spell check against the names of Roman emperors then you could do that.
I am aiming to have the first version of the dictionary and the add in ready for download by June 2007.
Please note this is not a Latin or Greek dictionary! Rather a collection of frequently used / referred words that if you are writing about these time periods, your not going to be banging your head against the screen every time the spell checker suggests manicure when you mean Germanicus.
For this project to be a success it needs your help. To join in, all you need to do is supply a list of Roman or Greek words in a CSV format, covering one particular topic. The Topics already covered or being worked on are listed on this page below. The files need to be in a CSV or plain text format with one word per a line. The file should then be saved as the title for which the words cover. For example, you can download this sample file of Roman Emperors and their titles here. However in the first instance please drop myself a email which you can do from the main page of my site.
To all, Please keep checking back at this page for updates and news.
